We have decided against using Flash ads, since they presents
difficulties for many people with disabilities. To name a few of those:
For Flash accessibility tools are only available when using
Windows and Internet Explorer. For those using a non-IE based
speech browser or a speech browser on another platform, Flash is
unusable. There's also a problem with Flash animations, even with the
best accessibility options, every time the screen changes, the
reader returns to the top of the page. You can imagine, then, how your
lovely animation looks and sounds to a sight impaired users. Another
major problem is that Flash doesn't work well with search engines! And
last but not least Flash does not degrad well. Unless the viewer has
the latest and greatest software for viewing Flash, considerable
content may be lost.
So we would encourage our advertisers to use JavaScript or animated
.gif's for their active ad content.
