It’s
spring and the beginning of Books Reading
Season. I want to share four great books that will introduce you to
people of different cultures who share the Christian worldview.
Bonnie Calhoun COOKING
THE BOOKS
After
her mother dies from a heart attack, Sloane Templeton goes from Cyber
Crimes Unit to bookstore owner before she can blink. She also
“inherits” a half-batty store manager; a strange bunch of neighborhood
old people called the Granny Oakleys Book Club, who meet at the store
once a week but never read books; and Aunt Verline, who fancies herself
an Iron Chef when in reality you need a cast-iron stomach to partake of
her culinary disasters. And with a group like this, you should never
ask, “What else can go wrong?”
A lot! Sloane begins to receive
cyber threats. While Sloane uses her
computer forensic skills to uncover the source of the threats, she
discovers that someone is out to kill her. Can her life get crazier?

Stacy Hawkins Adams COMING
HOME
If
forgiving your ex-husband was easy, everybody would do it. Brent had
cheated on Dayna and coldly said good-bye to her seven long years
ago―dashing her hopes of having children or growing old with the love
of her life. Working hard to make herself successful as a hospital
executive, Dayna has moved on, finding comfort in a new dating
relationship with a faith-filled colleague, Warren. But when Brent
resurfaces on her doorstep at just the wrong time, Dayna’s heart
threatens to come unglued. Why is Brent asking for forgiveness now? And
why are he and his new wife, Tamara, interested in reconciliation with
Dayna? The unbelievable answers in Coming Home
begin to surface
as Brent boldly asks Dayna to support him at the most crucial time of
his life. While Tamara’s heart brims with guilt, both women will
discover what it means to reach beyond pain and baggage to love
unconditionally, leaving the consequences to God. (Zondervan, March
2012)

Brunstetter THE HALF-STITCHED AMISH QUILTING CLUB
As Amish widow Emma Yoder
contemplates the task ahead, her
thoughts center on one: What if she fails? Longing to remove a burden
from her family by becoming self-sufficient, Emma offers to hold
quilting classes in her home. But when she sees the patchwork of faces
assembled for the first lesson, her confidence dwindles as doubt takes
hold.
There’s Star Stephens, a young
woman yearning for stability; Pam and
Stuart Johnston, a struggling couple at odds in their marriage; Paul
Ramirez, a widowed father hoping to find solace in finishing a quilt;
Jan Sweet, a rough and tough biker looking for something creative to
do; and Ruby Lee Williams, a preacher’s wife seeking relaxation amid
mounting parish problems.
While Emma grows to realize her
ability to share her passion for
quilting and her faith, the beginning quilters learn to transform
scraps of fabric into beauty. And slowly, their fragmented lives begin
to take new shape—some in unexpected ways—with the helping hands of one
another and the healing hand of God. (Barbour, April 2012)
