Cara Putman is a woman living a dream. Barbour's Heartsong Presents has released six of her books, including Canteen Dreams, a WWII historical set in Nebraska that won the ACFW 2008 Book of the Year for Short Historical. She also has written romantic suspense for Harlequin's Love Inspired Suspense, contemporary mysteries for Guidepost, a historical romantic suspense for Summerside, and the Complete Idiots Guide to Business Law. Fiction Finder

Every spring writers enter a nerve-wrecking season…the one where we send our unpublished manuscripts and published novels into contest world. We wait anxiously to see if the judges will like our babies as much as we adore them. We pray their words will be kind and their red pens gentle. We also beg God for grace and favor and that our bundles of joy, wit, and havoc will earn a special spot on a semi-finalist, finalist, or winner list.


This month ACFW wants to give a big high-five to those unpublished writers who sent their novels into the unknown and entered them in the Genesis contest. Designed to help identify excellence in yet-to-be published fiction, the Genesis has been awarded each year since 2003. Since then the categories have expanded, yet the excitement when getting the call that lets you know you’ve semi-finaled remains unchanged. The 2012 semi-finalists include:
